EDUCATION VISION STATEMENT
Central to MCPAS’ mission are education and community outreach programs that encourage young and not so young to more fully appreciate and participate in the performing arts. Through the years, studies have discovered that the inclusion of the performing arts in a broad-based curriculum improves the quality of a child’s educational experience. The arts teach discipline, improve self-esteem, and inspire creativity. Knowledge of the arts makes good teachers better and makes participating schools exciting. MCPAS is also committed to offering scholarship aid to area students pursuing higher education in the performing arts.
“Performing arts create a portal to dreams and imagination, and our youth must experience professional cultural events first-hand to experience the joy that comes from hearing a great piece of music played, watching the beauty of a dance, or witnessing the live story-telling of a great play. This is a great tradition that we must continue to experience as adults and pass on to our children and grandchildren"
Play It Again, MCPAS!
We are looking for 100 or more clarinets, trumpets, flutes, saxophones, and other musical instruments in relatively good condition," says MCPAS Executive Director Christine LeMaire. Please check under your beds, closets, and attics for unused musical instruments. We want to revive these dormant instruments and make it possible for deserving Montgomery County Area Students to have the opportunity to be in Band. “With the revival of these dormant instruments students who otherwise couldn’t afford to rent or buy a musical instrument, could participate in Band." Anyone interested in donating a musical instrument should call the MCPAS office at 936-760-2787. Donations are tax-deductible and donors will receive written documentation of their gift. The Play It Again, MCPAS! Program was created to solicit used musical instruments from local citizens, which would then be reconditioned for use by students who would otherwise be denied the opportunity to participate in musical education due to a lack of financial resources. In consultation with Pat Paris, Fine Arts Coordinator for Conroe Independent School District, MCPAS will identify all Montgomery County Middle Schools who would benefit and take part in the first phase of Play It Again, MCPAS! Band programs teach self-discipline, self-respect, and respect for others, creative problem solving and allow for physical, mental and emotional growth of students. What better use of instruments that are not being used than to put them in the hands of someone who wants to join a school band? To learn more and to enlist your support for Play It Again, MCPAS! by donating a musical instrument, making a monetary contribution or to offer support in some other way call the MCPAS office at 936-760-2787 or send email to mcpas@consolidated.net.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre is one of MCPAS’ community outreach programs. We provide the opportunity for the two Missoula Children’s Theatre directors to go out into local schools and give acting workshops during the week of the performance.
For the performance, The Missoula Children’s Theatre brings all of the costumes and sets to be used. Over 150 Montgomery County kids from kindergarten through high school have the opportunity to audition for a part in the cast. Only 50 - 60 are selected to be in the show. Older teens can also audition to work in technical positions such as stagehands, etc. The cast rehearse all week and perform the show on Saturday.
Within each cast, girls and boys are equal; the disabled become able; the shy experiment with bravery; the slow are rehearsed to perfection; and the gifted become part of the whole. The lesson learned is that all are necessary for the show to go on. Few arenas exist where responsibility is taught and learned so clearly. Missoula Children’s Theatre provides the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts and group dynamics while excelling as an individual -- a lesson from art that carries into life.
Special low ticket prices are offered so that entire families can attend which gives a full house performance opportunity for the children and teens in the show.
This production is possible only because of our many loyal volunteers and corporate sponsors.
